en.Wedoany.com Reported - Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) announced that the Graça Aranha (Maranhão) to Silvânia (Goiás) ultra-high voltage transmission line, built by China's State Grid Corporation, will begin operation ahead of schedule, moving from 2030 to March 2028. The 800-kilovolt (kV) direct current transmission line, approximately 1,500 kilometers long, crosses the states of Maranhão, Tocantins, and Goiás, with an estimated project investment of around 20 billion reais.

The MME stated that this infrastructure will enhance the transmission capacity of renewable energy generated in the Northeast region to the country's main load centers, providing 5 gigawatts (GW) of power to the National Interconnected System (SIN). Minister Alexandre Silveira emphasized that the project is crucial for the first battery energy storage system auction, scheduled for December this year. The transmission line expands power delivery capacity, while the battery system increases system flexibility by storing energy and releasing it during peak demand.
During the meeting, Sun Tao, Chairman of State Grid Brazil Holding, informed the minister of the accelerated timeline. In a statement, the MME noted that the combination of the transmission line and battery storage will make operations more robust, improve supply security, and help reduce operational constraints that lead to renewable energy curtailment, thereby better utilizing domestically produced clean energy.
