en.Wedoany.com Reported - General Motors has activated a 1,000-kilowatt (kW) solar photovoltaic system at its Complejo Silao in Mexico. The project is expected to generate approximately 1,960 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean electricity annually and avoid the emission of about 870 tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂).

The automaker installed a 1,000-kilowatt photovoltaic system, which generates approximately 1,960 megawatt-hours of clean electricity annually and avoids 870 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Complejo Silao becomes the second facility in Mexico where General Motors has deployed solar panels for power generation. The first facility is the Vehicle Distribution Center (VDC) in Querétaro, where the company has installed a photovoltaic system to power part of its operations.

Combined, the two solar facilities in Silao and Querétaro have a total installed capacity of 1,300 kilowatts, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1,097 tons annually. This is part of the automaker's decarbonization strategy in Mexico.

The new facility complements other measures the company has taken to reduce its operational environmental impact, including the use of renewable energy and enhanced energy efficiency. Since April 2025, Complejo Silao has begun receiving renewable electricity supply; by the end of that year, 41% of the electricity consumed by the plant was supported by clean energy. These initiatives are part of General Motors' global commitment to achieve 100% renewable energy for its global electricity consumption by 2035.

With 31 years of operation, Complejo Silao has solidified its position as one of General Motors' primary manufacturing centers in Mexico and a key facility in its global production network. During a visit to the complex, Guanajuato Governor Libia García toured several areas, including a newly built children's playroom for administrative staff, one of the initiatives focused on the well-being of employees and their families.

Paco Garza, President and CEO of General Motors Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, stated that these projects demonstrate the company is transforming its operations to be more efficient and responsible in the long term; every kilowatt of electricity installed and every ton of carbon dioxide avoided enhances the company's competitiveness and reflects its commitment to a more sustainable future for Mexico.
