en.Wedoany.com Reported - Belgian energy software startup Powernaut has deployed its Energy Operations Workspace platform across 350MW of solar and battery portfolio assets operated by Dutch independent power producer DSG.

Powernaut's software has been deployed across DSG's 350MW solar and battery portfolio

With this platform, DSG can centrally manage hundreds of solar sites across the Netherlands through a single digital interface, integrating asset performance monitoring, electricity market trading, and operational reporting into one system.

This move reflects a broader trend in the European renewable energy industry: as grid congestion and market complexity intensify, operators increasingly need enhanced coordinated control over geographically dispersed assets. In the Netherlands, grid capacity constraints have become one of the main bottlenecks hindering further expansion of renewable energy, with some regions experiencing long waiting periods for new grid connections or upgrade permits.

This grid challenge is widespread across Europe. The European Commission estimates that transmission and distribution infrastructure will require approximately €1.2 trillion (US$1.4 trillion) in investment by 2040; research from its Joint Research Centre indicates that if grid expansion lags behind the growth of renewable energy generation, up to 310TWh of renewable electricity could be curtailed by 2040.

Against this backdrop, software platforms capable of coordinating large-scale asset portfolios and responding to electricity price fluctuations, grid constraints, and flexibility markets are increasingly valued by renewable energy operators.

Powernaut's platform replaces multiple standalone systems previously used for operational monitoring, energy trading, and business reporting with a single digital workspace. Built on DSG's existing hardware architecture, the software integrates asset management, market participation, and operational functions while allowing the company to maintain autonomous control over its operational data and trading activities.

Martijn Vermeer, COO of DSG, elaborated on the changes brought by this deployment: "Managing a distributed portfolio of this scale requires ensuring that every site operates as expected and that every adjustment command is executed accurately. This was a capability we lacked before. Powernaut has given us greater oversight over the entire asset portfolio, along with the flexibility to add new sites and participate in more electricity markets."

For Powernaut, this deployment represents its largest commercial project to date and provides a reference case for its expansion in the European market. Florentijn Degroote, CEO and co-founder of the company, stated: "This is a significant commercial milestone. It validates the performance of our Energy Operations Workspace in large-scale real-time portfolios and provides a strong reference for supporting other European operators in their transition to more flexible operational models."

The platform is now fully operational across DSG's renewable energy assets and supports future expansion, including the addition of new solar sites and co-located battery energy storage systems, to accommodate the growing importance of flexibility in Europe's electricity network.
