en.Wedoany.com Reported - Vistry, in partnership with Platform Housing Group, is building a 100% affordable housing project of 177 homes on the former Simon Digby School site in Chelmsley Wood, Solihull.
The 4.5-hectare site has been earmarked for residential development for over a decade. Upon completion, all homes will be owned and managed by Platform Housing Group. The project will offer two-, three-, and four-bedroom houses, as well as one-bedroom apartments, along with play areas, nature trails, and new public open spaces.
The development will also provide nearly £2 million in Section 106 investment for local services and infrastructure. Funds will support education, public open spaces, healthcare, sports fields, transport improvements, and biodiversity net gain.
The project uses Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), with open-panel timber frames prefabricated at Vistry Works East Midlands in Leicestershire. Vistry says this approach helps reduce embodied carbon emissions, with each home built using these panels expected to save 14,460 kg of CO2 equivalent compared to traditional brick-built properties.
The development is part of broader efforts in Chelmsley Wood to address the demand for affordable housing while creating a sustainable new community. Adjacent to a nature reserve, the project aims to deliver new homes while strengthening connections to surrounding green spaces and supporting long-term community development.
Vistry and Platform say the partnership reflects their shared commitment to delivering high-quality affordable housing in areas where housing need is greatest.
