AmTrust Proposes 70-Storey, 300-Metre Office Tower in London, UK

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On 19 October, US insurance group AmTrust disclosed plans for an office tower development in the City of London, proposing to demolish the existing Exchequer Court office building at 33 St Mary Axe and construct a supertall building of approximately 70 storeys and about 300 metres in height. The project is designed by UK architectural practice WilkinsonEyre, with plans for approximately 93,000 square metres of office space and 3,500 square metres of public space. A public consultation is scheduled to launch on 26 October, with a planning application to be submitted in early 2027 and completion targeted for 2033.

The site is located within the eastern tall buildings cluster of the City of London. The existing Exchequer Court is a seven-storey office building constructed in the 1990s, situated across the street from the London landmark 30 St Mary Axe (the "Gherkin"). AmTrust plans to demolish the existing building and construct a new Grade A office tower, incorporating public-facing cultural event space, a ground-level courtyard, elevated landscaped gardens and pedestrian routes.
Upper Brook is serving as development manager, WilkinsonEyre as architect, WSP as multidisciplinary engineer, Bidwells as planning consultant, SLA as landscape designer, and GIA as surveyor and technical consultant. The project team also includes cultural adviser Future City and public consultation specialist Kanda.
Under the current plans, the new tower will be located north of the 74-storey One London building and adjacent to the 62-storey 22 Bishopsgate office building. The planned building height is close to that of The Shard, and the design will be further refined following the first round of public consultation. AmTrust has scheduled public consultation events on 26 and 28 October at 78 Bishopsgate, London, to present the architectural design and public space plans.
