en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 19, the City of Cape Town announced the completion of R83 million in municipal infrastructure works for the Protea Village residential project in the Bishopscourt area, covering civil engineering, electrical and related municipal service facilities. The project is planned to comprise 86 housing units, with the City additionally providing municipal land valued at approximately R320 million; the homes are scheduled for completion in the second half of 2027.

The project is being driven by the Protea Village Community Property Association, with Bethel Partners responsible for development management. The City of Cape Town is funding the construction of external municipal infrastructure and providing planning approval and ongoing management support. According to the City's 2026–2027 capital project documentation, the infrastructure works involve approximately 3.5 kilometers of water supply, electrical and other infrastructure serving 86 residential plots.

The housing development uses a cross-subsidy financing model based on land sales. The City-provided Erf 212 includes 50 serviced, saleable residential plots; the developer raises funds for the construction of the 86 subsidized homes by selling market-rate residential plots, while generating ongoing income for the Community Property Association. The project also preserves approximately 4 hectares of public open space along the Liesbeek River, managed by the City of Cape Town.

Early site works for the housing project began in October 2024, with a groundbreaking ceremony held in March 2025. According to the progress announced on October 19, the municipal infrastructure is complete, while approval for some housing construction is still being processed; the developer will continue preparations for the main construction of the homes.
