en.Wedoany.com Reported - Qatar Airways has recently resumed operations on routes from Doha Hamad International Airport to Helsinki Airport and Tokyo Haneda Airport, marking the restoration of key international destinations after the airline suspended multiple routes due to regional tensions.
The resumption comes after several Gulf carriers, including Qatar Airways, adjusted their route networks amid the situation in Iran, with Qatar Airways even grounding an entire sub-fleet. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia's newly established Riyadh Air launched flights to Malaga and Madrid on July 14 and 17 respectively, and has taken delivery of its seventh Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

Prior to the resumption of the Helsinki route, Qatar Airways had operated it from October 2016 to December 2022. Subsequently, its oneworld partner Finnair operated the Helsinki-Doha route on behalf of Qatar Airways under an agreement that began in December 2022 and was only active during the winter season. A similar cooperation model is reflected in the agreement between Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia. From 2022 to early 2025, Finnair also operated routes from Copenhagen and Stockholm to Doha.
In the upcoming winter season, Qatar Airways and Finnair will jointly offer two daily flights between Doha and Helsinki, double the frequency of Emirates' flights from Dubai to Finland. Qatar Airways adopts a staggered schedule, operating flights at different times to attract more transit passengers and enhance competitiveness.

Qatar Airways launched flights to Tokyo in 2012, initially serving Narita Airport, and began flying to Haneda Airport, which is closer to the city center, two years later. The Doha-Haneda route ended in March 2024, after which its partner Japan Airlines operated the route on behalf of Qatar Airways. With Qatar Airways resuming its own operations, Japan Airlines will only operate the route during the winter season. Combined with the Narita route, there are currently four daily flights departing from Doha. In 2026, the number of flights and seats between Doha and Tokyo will reach an all-time high.

According to the schedule submitted by Qatar Airways, the airline plans to operate passenger flights to 181 airports worldwide for the remainder of 2026. In addition to Helsinki and Haneda, new or resumed destinations include Bogotá, Caracas, Ha'il, Philadelphia, and Port Sudan. Comparing the schedule from early 2025 to mid-2026 with future plans, some destinations remain suspended, while Aleppo, Hamburg, Kano, Lyon, Mogadishu, Sarajevo, Sofia, and Venice have been removed from the route map.
