Fraport Takes Over Brazil's Third Airport, Jericoacoara, Operating Until 2047

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Fraport AG, through its Brazilian group subsidiary, has taken over operations of Jericoacoara Airport in northeastern Brazil under the existing concession framework for Fortaleza Airport. The airport thus becomes the third airport operated by Fraport AG in Brazil, with the concession period extending to 2047.

The award of this operating concession is based on the AmpliAR program (AmpliAR-Programm) introduced by the Brazilian government, which aims to integrate regional airports into existing concession systems. Jericoacoara Airport has now become part of the existing Fortaleza Airport concession.

The concession scope covers the passenger terminal as well as the operation of other infrastructure on the landside and airside, including retail and parking areas. Fraport has also committed to investing in the airport's modernization over the next three years.

Andreea Pal, CEO of Fraport Brasil, stated that Jericoacoara Airport complements the company's existing airport portfolio and opens up additional development opportunities within the Fortaleza concession.

The area surrounding Jericoacoara is among Brazil's most visited national parks, known for its long stretches of beach, dune landscapes, and lagoons. Thanks to the constant trade winds, the region is a popular destination for kite surfing and windsurfing enthusiasts.

In 2025, Jericoacoara Airport handled approximately 260,000 passengers, an increase of 23% over the previous year. The airport has a 2,200 x 45 meter runway and is served by Brazil's three major airlines: Latam, Gol, and Azul.

Fraport has been operating in Brazil since 2017, running Fortaleza Airport and Porto Alegre Airport under two separate concession contracts. In South America, Fraport also operates Lima Airport in Peru.
