Following a recent public consultation, over 80% of respondents supported the plan. The new store will have a net sales area of approximately 18,000 square feet, with M&S relocating from its Ormskirk store on Aughton Street to the new site, nearly tripling its trading space.

The store is being developed by M&S in partnership with Rothstone Estates and Marshall CDP, on a former care home site on Burscough's Hightown Road (A59), adjacent to the Ringtail Retail Park. The new food hall will feature a fresh market-style layout, offering the full M&S food range, with an in-store bakery, dedicated flower and wine shops, and a "Click & Collect" service point for online fashion, home, and beauty orders.

The development includes full-site landscaping and parking upgrades. The new car park will provide 152 customer spaces, including parent-and-child bays, accessible bays, and electric vehicle charging points. The site is located near existing bus stops served by routes 2A, 312, 337, and 375.

Staff from the existing Ormskirk store will transfer to the new food hall. If the planning application is approved, the project is expected to create over 25 additional local jobs.
