en.Wedoany.com Reported - The 200,000-ton/year linear alpha-olefin (LAO) technology development and industrial application project at Sinopec Tianjin Petrochemical, jointly tackled by the Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Industry (BRICI), recently passed the acceptance review by the Science, Technology, and Digitalization Department of Sinopec Group. Leveraging BRICI's independently developed complete industrial technology for producing linear alpha-olefins via ethylene oligomerization, the project has built and commissioned a 200,000-ton/year industrial production unit, achieving a successful first-time startup.
The unit completed full-load calibration in April this year, with comprehensive energy consumption better than the design value and overall indicators surpassing those of similar foreign units. Since its commissioning, the unit has been operating safely and stably for nearly 600 days.

Alpha-olefin products can be used to prepare high-grade lubricating oils, drilling fluids, and other products, and provide basic raw materials for the downstream high-end polyolefin industry. To address the long-term foreign constraints on LAO production technology, BRICI has made full efforts in research and development, creating a complete set of LAO industrial technologies with independent intellectual property rights, filling the gap in China's domestic high-carbon alpha-olefin production technology.
Currently, two LAO industrial units at Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical and Sinopec Tianjin Petrochemical, built based on BRICI's technology, are both operating at full load, capable of stably supplying high-carbon alpha-olefin products to the market.
