Brazil's Algar Telecom Plans to Expand 4G/5G Network Capacity in 80 Cities by September

The project is scheduled to be completed by September this year in cities located in the states of Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Goiás, and Mato Grosso do Sul.

The first city to undergo full capacity expansion was Uberlândia in Minas Gerais. According to field measurement data, the operator's 5G network average download speed increased by 50%, while the 4G network average download speed rose by approximately 48%.

The initiative utilizes additional spectrum resources in the 3.5 GHz band for 5G networks and the 700 MHz band for 4G networks. According to the operator, Anatel's authorization allows for the expansion of available data traffic resources on existing mobile infrastructure. The reorganization of spectrum usage effectively increases network capacity, resulting in faster and more stable connections, especially during peak usage hours and in areas with high traffic demand.

In Uberlândia, after the network expansion was implemented, the average download speed of the 5G network increased from 500 Mbps to 750 Mbps, a 50% growth. The average speed of the 4G network rose from 25 Mbps to 37 Mbps, an improvement of approximately 48%. The performance enhancements primarily benefit applications requiring higher data transmission capabilities, including video streaming, video calls, internet browsing, and online gaming.

The mobile network expansion will continue steadily according to the schedule, with completion expected in all planned cities by September. According to Algar Telecom, the project requires no changes to customer equipment. The company noted that utilizing the additional spectrum will strengthen the capacity of its 4G and 5G networks within its service area during the second half of the year.
