en.Wedoany.com Reported - Danish company Per Aarsleff A/S has been awarded a design and build contract worth DKK 3.7 billion (GBP 420 million) by Energinet for the onshore facilities of the Bornholm Energy Island.
These two onshore facilities will receive and distribute electricity from future offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea, connecting the power to the Danish and German grids. The largest facility will be built in the southern part of Bornholm, where electricity from offshore wind farms will be collected and distributed to Germany and to the second facility in Høje Taastrup.
Jesper Kristian Jacobsen, CEO of the Aarsleff Group, stated that this is a unique project, and the company is proud to work closely with Energinet and contribute to strengthening supply security and supporting the expansion of European energy infrastructure. The project's carbon footprint was also considered as a competitive parameter.
Most of the work will be carried out internally by the Aarsleff Group, which facilitates efficient execution and a robust project process. The majority of concrete components will be prefabricated at Aarsleff's component factory in Poland, while Wicotec Kirkebjerg A/S will be responsible for technical installations.
The facility on Bornholm will cover 110 hectares, including landscaping, access roads, and rainwater basins. Here, Aarsleff will construct 51,000 square meters of buildings, including concrete and steel structures for converters and a 400kV high-voltage substation. The largest buildings will be four unique halls, with architectural inspiration drawn from Bornholm's rocky landscape.
In Høje Taastrup, the project includes the construction of two 17,000-square-meter buildings on a 23-hectare site, along with associated infrastructure and landscaping.
The design phase will begin on August 1, with the first earthworks and concrete works expected to start around the turn of the year 2027/28. These onshore facilities are scheduled for delivery in 2030 and 2031, respectively.
The project is being implemented under a design and build contract, with Artelia A/S serving as consultant and CF Møller Architects responsible for architectural and landscape design.
