en.Wedoany.com Reported - Lufthansa Technik has signed an agreement with Unison, a subsidiary of GE Aerospace, to become an authorized European maintenance provider for CFM International's Leap series engine ignition system components. The German MRO giant will collaborate with Unison for 15 years, offering Leap ignition system component services—including exciters and leads—at its main engine maintenance facility in Hamburg.leap-1b

Under the agreement, Unison will provide Lufthansa Technik with OEM parts and technical data, enabling it to manage component warranties related to the GE Aerospace-Safran engine joint venture at its Hamburg facility. Both companies confirmed that under the long-term agreement, they will continue to operate independently and compete globally for maintenance and overhaul services.

Kranthi Tata, President and CEO of Unison, stated that this partnership will strengthen the regional MRO network for the Leap ignition system while enhancing service capabilities for European operators. Headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, Unison serves commercial, military, and space applications, producing ignition systems, temperature sensors, alternators, air-cooled oil coolers, and custom engine mounting systems for Leap engines.

All Leap variants are included in this agreement. Lufthansa Technik has held full MRO approval for the Leap-1A (engine option for the Airbus A320neo) since 2019, for the Leap-1B (engine option for the Boeing 737 MAX) since 2022, and partial approval for the Leap-1C (engine option for the Comac C919 aircraft), including specialized component and system repairs.

Lufthansa Technik was among the first five members of the CFM International Premier MRO network announced in 2024, which had expanded to eight suppliers by July 2026. The company recently strengthened its Leap operations by launching a Leap-1B overhaul facility in Calgary, Canada, supported by a 15-year contract with WestJet valued at approximately $3 billion, with a test cell expected to be operational next year.
