The project is part of the Ferrol Factory's (Factoría de Ferrol) goal to achieve 6 MW of renewable energy generation. A total of eight companies participated in the bidding process, with a construction period of 168 days.

According to the technical plan, the power station will have an installed capacity of 1,296 kWp, using a coplanar mounting system on the roof with 2,592 photovoltaic panels of 500 Wp each. Power conversion will be handled by 14 inverters of 100 kW/400 V employing multi-MPPT technology, installed on metal frames.

The mounting structure will use the 95V coplanar system from Sunfer, based in Valencia, made of EN AW 6005 T6 anodized aluminum profiles, covering an area of 4,636 square meters. The FDB building features a double-slope DECK roof with an 8% slope, composed of 46–0.7 mm steel sheets, 60 mm insulation, and a 1.5 mm TPO waterproofing membrane.

The photovoltaic array will be installed using a fixing system designed for DECK roofs, with waterproofing membrane identical to the existing TPO laid over it. Additionally, maintenance walkways will be constructed using a 1.8 mm thick TPO waterproofing membrane, reinforced with polyester mesh, weather-resistant, UV-stable, and slip-treated. The electrical infrastructure includes 1.5 kV insulated DC cables and 24 safety switches for fire protection (with facade trip function).

Energy protection and control will be managed through two 400 V/1,000 A distribution cabinets equipped with switchgear and monitoring hardware, connected to the inverters via 0.6/1 kV insulated AC cables.

The project is funded by the Next Generation funds under the framework of the Spanish government's Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, and is linked to the Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) for the modernization and diversification of the Spanish shipbuilding industry.
