en.Wedoany.com Reported - For the first time, solar power accounted for more than 20% of electricity demand across the 27 EU member states for three consecutive months. The data comes from the Energy-Charts platform compiled by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE).

Energy-Charts statistics show that the share was 20.3% in May, 21.1% in June, and 21.5% in July. July data is not yet fully complete and may still see slight changes, but analysts believe this will not affect the record. In the same period last year, solar power's share of EU electricity demand ranged between 17.3% and 18.8%.

Several new records also emerged at the national level. Germany's solar share of electricity demand exceeded 30% for the first time and remained above this level for three consecutive months. It was 30.3% in May, 30.4% in June, and an initial 31.6% in July. In July of the previous year, weather conditions kept the photovoltaic power share at just 22.6%.

Switzerland's solar share remained above 25% for the first time in three consecutive months, at 25.8% in May, 25.3% in June, and 26.5% in July. In the same months last year, the figure ranged between 19.1% and 21.8%.

Austria also set new records. Photovoltaic power accounted for 23.3% of electricity demand in May, 22.5% in June, and 21.9% in July. All three months exceeded the 20.3% record set in June 2025, when Austria first crossed the 20% threshold.

The Baltic states lead the EU ranking in solar share. Latvia's photovoltaic power accounted for 49% of electricity demand in June, the highest share ever recorded in the EU. Lithuania and Estonia also remained at high levels, at 44.7% and 35.8% respectively in June.

Latvia's increase is particularly notable. The country's solar share had already reached 34.9% in April, rose to 40% in May, and Energy-Charts projects 38.9% for July. In the same period last year, the figure ranged between 13.7% and 18.9%.

Spain, Greece, and Bulgaria also recorded high solar shares. Spain's photovoltaic power share of electricity demand exceeded 35% for the first time in three consecutive months, peaking at 36.9% in June, more than 5 percentage points higher than the same period last year.

Greece saw a similar trend, with solar shares remaining above 35% from May to July, up more than 7 percentage points year-on-year.

Bulgaria's solar share, like Germany's, exceeded 30% between May and July.

France and Italy remain below the EU average. France's solar share rose by approximately 2 percentage points year-on-year, reaching an all-time high of 14.6% in July, matching the record set in July 2025; it was 13.6% in June and 12.6% in May.

In Italy, solar power's share of electricity demand reached 19.5% in May, the highest ever; it fell to 18.5% in June and dropped to 16.7% in July.
