Wedoany.com Report-May 29, Skanska has secured a US$160 million contract to construct the underground Skøyen metro station in Oslo, Norway. Positioned 45 meters below ground, the two-track station will serve the Fornebubanen metro line, featuring access points on both sides of Hoff Street. The project is set to enhance connectivity and capacity at one of Oslo’s busiest public transport hubs, facilitating seamless integration between metro, train, and bus services.

The scope of Skanska’s work includes technical installations such as ventilation, electrical systems, elevators, and escalators, as well as concrete works, shafts, outdoor areas, access buildings, and finalization tasks in pre-excavated tunnels. Additional work will be conducted at Madserud, Bestum, and in the tunnel toward Majorstuen. “This project will strengthen Oslo’s public transport infrastructure, improving accessibility and efficiency for commuters,” said a Skanska representative.

Emphasizing sustainability, the project prioritizes energy-efficient solutions to minimize environmental impact. Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2025 and is expected to be completed by 2029. The new station will increase the metro line’s capacity, supporting Oslo’s growing demand for reliable and sustainable public transportation.

The Skøyen metro station project aligns with efforts to modernize urban infrastructure in Norway, enhancing mobility for residents and visitors. By improving connectivity at a key transport hub, the station will contribute to more efficient travel across the city, reducing reliance on private vehicles and supporting environmental goals. Skanska’s expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects positions it to deliver a high-quality, sustainable addition to Oslo’s metro network.

This initiative reflects a broader commitment to advancing public transportation systems that prioritize efficiency and sustainability. The Skøyen station is expected to play a vital role in Oslo’s urban development, fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for commuters through enhanced transport options.
