en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 31, SK Oceanplant, a South Korean offshore structure manufacturer, disclosed that it has signed a contract with Singapore-based offshore engineering company Seatrium for the fabrication and supply of the substructure for the German BalWin5 HVDC offshore converter platform, with a contract value of approximately $110.71 million. The contract covers one complete jacket and 20 skirt piles, which will be used to support the BalWin5 offshore converter platform in the German North Sea.

SK Oceanplant's scope of work includes production design, material procurement, fabrication, and load-out delivery of the jacket and skirt piles, with a total structural weight of approximately 15,000 tonnes. The available materials do not disclose the specific dates for commencement, delivery, or load-out, so this milestone should be recognized as the disclosure of the formal supply contract signing, and should not be described as the equipment having already been fabricated or delivered.

BalWin5 is being advanced by TenneT, the German and Dutch transmission system operator, and is an offshore HVDC grid connection project with a transmission capacity of up to 2.2 gigawatts. The project includes an offshore converter station in the German North Sea, an onshore converter station in Wehdel near Bremen, and a total cable system of approximately 325 kilometers comprising submarine and onshore cables. The 2.2 GW figure represents grid transmission capacity, not the installed capacity of a single offshore wind farm.

In December 2025, TenneT awarded the main engineering contracts for BalWin5 to a consortium of GE Vernova and Seatrium. Under the division of work, GE Vernova is responsible for HVDC technology as well as onshore and offshore converter equipment, while Seatrium is responsible for the design, construction, transport, and installation of the offshore converter platform. The jacket contract secured by SK Oceanplant falls within the substructure supply segment of Seatrium's offshore platform construction scope.

SK Oceanplant previously supplied partial substructure components for the German DolWin4 and BorWin4 offshore converter platforms, completing delivery of those components in May 2026. The scope of the BalWin5 contract has been expanded to include the complete jacket and skirt piles, and BalWin5 is scheduled to enter the commissioning and operation phase in 2032.
