The American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) this week organized stakeholder meetings with key Senate offices, highlighting how spending cuts would affect state transportation projects. The association also submitted a coalition letter to congressional leaders on behalf of more than 60 national organizations, urging continued support for all surface transportation programs—regardless of funding source—in any continuing resolution or extension bill. Earlier, the House passed a continuing resolution that extends transportation spending cuts through December 4, but that resolution has not yet addressed the extension of surface transportation programs.

Senate leaders from both parties are now finalizing details of the temporary measure, which could extend spending and programs through December 11. The Senate is expected to consider the measure during the week of August 3, and since it requires 60 votes to pass, it must secure support from both Republicans and Democrats.
