Wedoany.com Report-Nov 6, Cardiff-headquartered renewable energy company Bute Energy has been granted planning permission to construct a 92.4-MW wind farm north of Cardiff, Wales.

With the approval from the Welsh government in place, building works at the site are set to begin early in 2025. The plant could be put into operation in 2027, Bute Energy said on Tuesday.

The project, dubbed Twyn Hywel, calls for the installation of 14 turbines near Caerphilly and Pontypridd, which are expected to generate enough electricity to meet the demand of about 81,000 homes. It will come with a community benefit fund worth more than GBP 30 million (USD 38.7m/EUR 35.9m) over the project’s 40-year lifespan.

Twyn Hywel is the first of 16 onshore wind projects across Wales proposed by Bute Energy, of which 10 are already in the planning system. The company said its full portfolio represents an investment of GBP 3 billion.

Bute Energy, which is backed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and the Wales Pension Partnership (WPP), a year ago laid out plans for two wind farm projects in Wales totalling 192 MW that are planned to enter the permitting procedures next year.
