Led by EY Canada, this deployment serves as a key innovation hub within EY's global enterprise technology strategy. The hardware installation is part of a total $3 billion global investment focused on artificial intelligence and next-generation frontier computing, aimed at enhancing EY's commercial capability to handle data-sensitive enterprise workloads in scenarios such as optimization, fraud detection, data protection, and large-scale risk management.

The decision to deploy an on-site system directly within Canada, rather than relying entirely on cloud-based quantum access, was made to meet the stringent data sovereignty, regulatory, and privacy requirements of clients in the financial services, energy, government, and healthcare sectors. The dedicated hardware enables EY teams to maintain full control over where sensitive client data is stored, how applications are executed, and how data access is governed.
The deployment leverages EY's "Client Zero" innovation methodology: quantum algorithms are first developed, tested, and optimized in internal operational environments before being delivered to enterprise clients. Through this internal validation framework, EY can stress-test hybrid quantum-classical workflows used for financial portfolio optimization, advanced threat detection, and supply chain logistics. The dedicated on-premises local quantum processing unit (QPU) in Canada handles sensitive data processing within the country, allowing EY to maintain direct control over data sovereignty and intellectual property. The quantum initiative also integrates with EY's AI-led platform ey.ai The Reimagination Engine, which combines machine learning models with quantum computing to enhance predictive and decision intelligence.
EY leadership views this move as a critical step in advancing quantum computing from experimental pilot projects to real-world business execution. Raj Sharma, EY Global Managing Partner for Growth and Innovation, and Biren Agnihotri, Chief Technology Officer of EY Canada, noted that combining the generative AI platform with dedicated quantum hardware creates new capabilities for solving complex problems.
