en.Wedoany.com Reported - German data center operator Pfalzkom has announced that its two data centers in Mutterstadt, DCRN I (in operation since 2010) and DCRN II (in operation since 2017), are fully powered by green electricity, with Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) values below 1.4. This metric reflects the ratio between a data center's total energy consumption and the actual energy used by IT equipment, with values closer to 1 indicating higher energy efficiency.

According to the company, older data center facilities typically have PUE values above 2, while modern data centers have reached the 1.2 to 1.4 range. Both facilities are equipped with photovoltaic systems and intelligent hot/cold aisle containment solutions, and continuously optimize building technology to reduce energy consumption.

In terms of network infrastructure, Pfalzkom emphasizes that its own fiber optic network provides direct connectivity for businesses in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, with access to the Frankfurt internet exchange node DE-CIX. All data is stored within Germany and managed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO), rather than being handed over to international hyperscale cloud providers. The company states that this arrangement constitutes a strategic advantage for customers amid increasing geopolitical uncertainty.

Germany's Energy Efficiency Act (EnEfG) has established a relevant framework for the data center industry, placing greater priority on energy efficiency, renewable energy use, and sustainable operating models. Operators must now continuously demonstrate and improve their energy performance. Pfalzkom believes that sustainability is transitioning from a competitive advantage to a fundamental prerequisite.
