en.Wedoany.com Reported - Port Polska has launched a competitive dialogue for the design and construction of a railway tunnel and underground station beneath Poland's future national airport, with 11 companies from four consortia participating in the contractor selection process. The project is one of the most important components of the multimodal hub being developed by Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK).
The tunnel and underground station will connect air transport with the high-speed rail network, regional and long-distance passenger services, enabling passengers to transfer quickly between trains and planes. The planned underground station will feature six platforms and be directly linked to the airport's multimodal hub. The tunnel will be approximately 6 km long, with the underground railway complex volume exceeding 1.6 million cubic meters—nearly three times that of Warsaw Central Station.
The project is divided into two packages: Package 1 covers the eastern and central sections of the tunnel, the railway station, and the multimodal hub; Package 2 encompasses the western section of the tunnel and the railway connecting lines. The four consortia shortlisted for the competitive dialogue are: Mirbud (lead), Kobylarnia, Torpol; Mostostal Warszawa (lead), NDI, NDI Sopot, Intercor; PORR (lead), Gülermak; Strabag (lead), TYM-BUD Zakład Remontowo-Budowlany Waldemar Tymoszewski.
According to the schedule, the contract is expected to be awarded in the first quarter of 2027, with construction commencing at the end of 2027. The new underground station will allow trains to run along the east-west axis, and once the CMK North line is completed, also along the north-south axis. The current timeline indicates that the tunnel and railway station beneath the airport are expected to be operational by the end of 2032, coinciding with the opening of the high-speed rail line from Warsaw to Łódź; the extension of the "Y"-shaped rail network to Wrocław and Poznań is planned for completion by the end of 2035.
Dariusz Kuś, CPK board member responsible for airport affairs, stated that dialogue with contractors is crucial to achieving the optimal technical solutions that account for the project's complexity, and that all shortlisted consortia possess the necessary experience to deliver infrastructure of this scale.
The overall Port Polska plan includes the construction of a new national airport, a high-speed rail network, access road infrastructure, logistics centers, and the Airport City area, with the goal of establishing one of the largest multimodal hubs in Central Europe.
