The Sandia-1 well is located approximately 42 kilometers from the coast, at a water depth of 1,251 meters, 18 kilometers from the Sirius-1 well (discovery well) and Sirius-2 well (appraisal well), and 9 kilometers from the Copoazu-1 well (discovery well). The discovery highlights the natural gas resource potential offshore Colombia, and the additional gas volumes will help enhance energy security in the region.
The Sandia-1 well was spudded on June 12, 2026, and reached final depth on July 29, 2026, with operations conducted to high standards, prioritizing environmental protection and personnel safety. Currently, the operator is conducting a detailed evaluation of the gas-bearing intervals through wireline logging, with laboratory analyses to follow.
Petrobras' activities in this block are aligned with its long-term strategy of replenishing oil and gas reserves by exploring new frontiers and partnering with other companies, contributing to meeting global energy demand during the energy transition.
Petrobras, through its subsidiary Petrobras International Braspetro B.V – Colombia Branch (PIB-COL), operates the consortium with a 44.44% stake, in partnership with Ecopetrol S.A., which holds a 55.56% stake.
