en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has completed the installation of a solar power generation system at Marina South Pier (MSP), coinciding with the 20th anniversary of MSP's opening. MSP, which began operations in 2006, replaced the former Clifford Pier and has since served as Singapore's main passenger ferry terminal for trips to the southern islands, while also facilitating crew changes for vessels in the port.

This solar project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from MPA's shore-based operations and represents a concrete initiative under the public sector's GreenGov.SG sustainability movement to advance solar energy adoption. The project utilizes approximately 3,200 square meters of rooftop and canopy space at MSP, with a total of 1,092 solar photovoltaic (PV) panels installed.

The system can generate up to 780,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, roughly equivalent to the yearly electricity consumption of about 180 four-room HDB flats, and can meet a significant portion of MSP's power demand. The pier will progressively upgrade its electrical systems to optimize the integration of renewable energy; the system can also provide charging support for electric harbour craft currently operating at MSP and those planned for the future.

The MSP solar project is part of MPA's broader efforts to expand the use of renewable energy across its shore-based facilities. MPA is also working to replace diesel generators powering equipment on Pulau Satumu, with the island expected to be fully powered by renewable energy by the end of 2027.
