Four Liebherr Tower Cranes Deployed at Amazon FACE Site in Brazil

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Four five-ton Liebherr 85 EC-B tower cranes have been deployed at the Amazon FACE (Free-Air Carbon Dioxide Enrichment) research site near Manaus, Brazil, to lift researchers and scientific equipment 45 meters above the rainforest canopy for scientific experiments and measurements.

These cranes are used to access a pristine forest area, where scientists expose part of the rainforest to carbon dioxide concentrations projected for future decades, monitoring changes in the canopy, soil, biodiversity, and carbon uptake in real time. According to AmazonFACE, tower cranes were chosen because each tower has a small footprint while still providing horizontal coverage across the plots, thereby reducing soil disturbance.

Bruno Takeshi, AmazonFACE operations manager, stated: "Some phenomena that rarely occurred in the past are now becoming very frequent. The climate in the entire region is becoming highly anomalous."

Bruna Prisco, a Liebherr application engineer, added: "These four 85 EC-B 5 tower cranes were chosen precisely because they can withstand extreme heat and high humidity without disturbing the habitat."
