Upon completion, the project is expected to accommodate over 200 additional cruise calls, boosting the port's annual cruise passenger throughput to 2 million and generating an additional $100 million in annual economic impact.

Site preparation work, led by Kimmins Contracting Corporation, includes filling the former Metroport area (the historic site of the Banana Docks) and relocating critical stormwater infrastructure. This work will continue throughout 2026, followed by a settlement period before major construction begins.

The design of the new terminal and accompanying parking garage has been awarded to HDR, which is collaborating with BEA Architects on the project.

Paul Anderson, Port President and CEO, stated that this project is not just about adding a cruise terminal but represents an investment in the future of Port Tampa Bay and the economy of West Central Florida. As cruise demand continues to grow, the new terminal will enhance the port's ability to serve existing cruise partners, attract new opportunities, and support jobs, tourism, and business development across the region.

Construction of the terminal is expected to be completed in 2029.
