en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 23, UK-based CemBlend partnered with Hepworth Clay to launch HepCem calcined clay supplementary cementitious material, commencing commercial supply to UK cement and concrete producers. The product is manufactured at Hepworth Clay's facility in Crow Edge near Sheffield and can typically replace 20% to 35% of ordinary Portland cement in suitable mix designs. The two parties plan to advance market application through both independent material supply and custom blended cementitious materials.

HepCem uses selected natural clay subjected to controlled calcination to form a pozzolanically active aluminosilicate material. The product has obtained independent certification from the UK construction products certification body CPC and complies with BS 8615-1:2019+A1:2026. Its silica content is 60.62%, of which reactive silica content is 42.98%; according to the relevant test method, the 28-day strength activity index reaches 80%.

CemBlend will supply HepCem to cement plants and concrete producers, combining it with limestone, ground granulated blast furnace slag, and fly ash according to different product requirements. In the current UK cement formulation system, CEM II/A-Q may use 6% to 20% calcined clay, while the applicable range for CEM II/B-Q is 21% to 35%. The material can also be added directly at concrete batching plants, supplying precast concrete, structural concrete, and infrastructure projects.

Hepworth Clay has published preliminary carbon emission data for the trial production phase of approximately 200 kilograms of CO2 equivalent per tonne of product, covering raw materials and production. The company plans to conduct a full life cycle assessment and third-party Environmental Product Declaration certification once production enters stable operation. HepCem obtained product certification in August; the new development announced in October is the establishment of a commercial supply partnership with CemBlend and market promotion.
