en.Wedoany.com Reported - Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) plans to replace its central railway traffic management platform with a new digital system to enhance network capacity and operational stability. Currently, SBB's operations center relies on the Iltis Integrated Control and Information System to monitor and manage passenger and freight trains across Switzerland, a platform that has been in service for over 30 years.

Under the plan, the new system will be deeply integrated with future digital interlocking systems and timetable systems, and will adhere to international standards to improve train management flexibility, thereby accommodating more train services on the existing rail network. SBB intends to launch a public procurement process in 2027, with the new platform expected to be introduced in phases starting in the early 2030s and fully deployed by the early 2040s.

Until the transition is complete, Iltis will remain a critical system for daily railway operations. To this end, SBB has extended its existing technical support agreement with platform developer Siemens, which holds the intellectual property and proprietary know-how for the system. The extension agreement was published on July 29, 2026, on Switzerland's Simap procurement platform, setting a maximum framework amount of CHF 280 million for technical support, valid until Iltis is replaced, and no later than 2045.

As the new system is gradually commissioned and reliance on Iltis decreases, actual expenditures are expected to decline accordingly. The related services are provided by Siemens Mobility Switzerland from Wallisellen.
