UK's Maritime launches five-day-a-week rail freight service between Felixstowe and Northampton

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Maritime Transport has launched a rail freight service between the Port of Felixstowe and Northampton Gateway, operating five days a week. The new route adds an inland distribution corridor for the UK's busiest container port.

The new service runs five days a week, with import trains operating Tuesday to Saturday and export trains Monday to Friday.

The launch brings Felixstowe into the rail network served by the Northampton Gateway. The terminal, officially opened in February 2026, is Maritime's ninth rail freight facility and has direct access to the West Coast Main Line via the Northampton loop.

For Hutchison Ports UK, the new route expands the coverage of inland distribution services from the Port of Felixstowe. The port operator said Northampton Gateway is the nearest rail-connected inland terminal to Felixstowe.

The rail development plan at the Northampton terminal had previously delivered a five-day-a-week Southampton service via the East West Rail Line. Maritime had also planned to add rail services from Felixstowe and London Gateway as part of the terminal's phased expansion; the launch of the Felixstowe route is part of that plan.

From a market perspective, Northampton Gateway is transitioning from the terminal opening phase to the route-building phase. The Felixstowe service adds another regular port corridor into the Midlands for Maritime, while strengthening rail freight capacity in this key UK warehousing market.
