en.Wedoany.com Reported - Mining company Challenger Gold has completed an A$85 million (approximately US$60 million) financing round to accelerate development of its Hualilán mine in San Juan Province, Argentina, while simultaneously completing a management restructuring.

The company operates the Hualilán mine. This financing is seen as a key step in its growth strategy, with funds earmarked to accelerate deposit development. Under the plan set by the new management, the project's next phase will consider building an independent heap leach system.

In the leadership reshuffle, mining entrepreneur Peter Marrone, currently an executive at Allied Gold, has been appointed non-executive chairman, participating in the financing with a personal investment of A$8 million. Yohann Bouchard, former head of operations at Yamana Gold, has been appointed Operations Director while also temporarily assuming the role of interim CEO. His focus will be overseeing the company's transition from the exploration phase to the development and production phase.

The executive team update also extends to the financial line, with Felipe Riquelme appointed Chief Financial Officer, effective August 10, 2026. The new technical and administrative team will be responsible for executing the results of the pre-feasibility study, which positions Hualilán as a low-cost, low-risk development opportunity.

Sonia Delgado continues as CEO and President of Golden Mining, overseeing operations in San Juan Province. Former board chairman Eduardo Elsztain has transitioned to the role of non-executive director, with his subsidiary investing approximately A$5.34 million in this financing round.

Former CEO Kris Knauer has stepped down after seven years in the role. During his tenure, Hualilán evolved from an exploration project into a deposit with resource potential, and combined with the company's assets in Ecuador, gold resources approached 10 million ounces. Knauer will remain as a consultant for six months to ensure an orderly transition.

The company stated that following the completion of the financing, it is well-funded to advance its plans in San Juan Province and will resume exploration drilling at the El Guayabo project in Ecuador before year-end. Investors are optimistic about this new phase and have described the new management as a "world-class" team.

The Hualilán mine is central to Challenger Gold's strategic positioning, and the company plans to leverage new financial resources and an experienced management team to develop the deposit into one of the region's significant gold operations.
