en.Wedoany.com Reported - "Golden Carrier" has commenced coastal shipping operations in the islands of Trinidad and Tobago, eight weeks after concluding a six-month Mediterranean charter with GNV. The vessel is managed by A-Ships Management.

"Golden Carrier," with a gross tonnage of 22,874 tonnes and a ro-ro cargo loading lane of 1,720 meters, will temporarily replace the Ro-Pax ferry "Blue Wave Harmony" for freight and passenger services between Port of Spain and Scarborough, under the existing charter agreement with the National Infrastructure Development Company (NIDCO). According to AXSRoRo information, the charter rate remains unchanged.

"Blue Wave Harmony" was sold by P&O Ferries in December 2021 and required extensive repairs to regain class before entering the route. The vessel also encountered issues during its operations in Trinidad and Tobago, including complaints from carriers in May due to sanitation system failures and a shortage of running water.

"Golden Carrier," built in 1986 and originally named "Öresund," was initially designed as a railway ferry for transporting rail vehicles. In March 2025, A-Ships Management acquired the vessel from Polska Żegluga Morska (PZM, a partner of Unity Line). The vessel can accommodate 399 people (including crew) and features 70 cabins with a total of 240 berths.

After concluding its contract with GNV on May 31, the vessel entered dry dock in Perama, Greece, and subsequently set sail for Trinidad on July 6.

The charter agreement signed by NIDCO for "Blue Wave Harmony" had an initial term of six months, with an option to extend for an additional six months, which has been exercised. As part of the second phase of the contract, the owner decided to deploy "Golden Carrier" as a replacement vessel, while "Blue Wave Harmony" was taken out of service to complete planned maintenance and improvement works.
