en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 10, d'Amico International Shipping disclosed that its wholly-owned subsidiary d'Amico Tankers has exercised the purchase option under an existing bareboat charter contract to acquire the MR product tanker High Discovery for approximately $15.3 million. The company expects to take ownership of the vessel in early November 2026, with the final purchase price subject to minor adjustments based on the actual delivery date.

The High Discovery has a deadweight tonnage of 50,000 tons and was built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea in February 2014, classified as an eco-friendly MR product tanker. d'Amico International Shipping previously executed a sale-and-leaseback transaction for this vessel in 2022; upon completion of the current transaction, the company will reacquire full ownership.

In the third quarter of 2022, the original charter arrangements for the High Discovery and High Fidelity were terminated, after which both vessels were transferred to new ten-year charter contracts. The purchase option for the High Discovery has been exercisable since September 2024, with the contractual purchase obligation date set for September 2032.

As of August 10, d'Amico International Shipping operates a fleet of 28 double-hull product tankers covering MR, Handysize, and LR1 vessel types, of which 26 are owned vessels and 2 are operated under bareboat charter arrangements, with an average fleet age of approximately 10 years. The High Discovery is one of the company's two remaining bareboat-chartered vessels, the other being the High Fidelity, also built in 2014.

Since the beginning of this year, d'Amico International Shipping has been simultaneously adjusting its existing fleet structure. In March, the company sold the High Seas, built in 2012, for $27.6 million, with the vessel delivered on April 24; in May, it signed an agreement to sell the High Tide for $28.5 million, with delivery to the buyer expected before November 2026.

On the newbuilding front, d'Amico Tankers ordered two 50,000 DWT MR2 product tankers in January 2026, and in March exercised options to add two additional vessels of the same type, at a contract price of $45.4 million each. The four newbuildings are scheduled for delivery in March, June, August, and October 2029, respectively.
