en.Wedoany.com Reported - DP World marks its 20th anniversary of operations at the Port of Callao in Peru. Over the past two decades, the group has invested approximately $1 billion in port infrastructure, equipment modernization, and advanced technology, transforming Callao into one of South America's leading container gateways and Peru's primary trade hub. The port currently handles about 60% of Peru's container cargo, processing over 22 million TEUs cumulatively.

DP World's 20th anniversary of operations at the Port of Callao

DP World began operations at the Port of Callao in 2006. In 2025, the terminal's annual throughput exceeded 2 million TEUs for the first time, becoming the first container terminal on South America's west coast to reach this milestone—a figure equivalent to the total annual container throughput of all Peruvian ports a decade earlier.

From January to May 2026, the Port of Callao handled 48% of Peru's exports and 61% of its imports, connecting key agricultural export industries such as grapes, avocados, and pomegranates to markets in Europe, North America, and Asia.

In 2024, DP World completed a $400 million expansion project with the commissioning of the Bicentennial Pier, increasing the terminal's annual capacity to 2.7 million TEUs and enabling it to accommodate larger vessels.

Regarding future expansion, DP World is advancing the South Terminal expansion plan with a proposed investment exceeding $1.3 billion. Upon completion, the project will boost annual capacity to up to 4.3 million TEUs and include the construction of a 20.8-hectare off-dock container yard.

In terms of sustainability, recent investments include 36 electric internal transfer vehicles, Latin America's first dedicated port electric vehicle charging station, and the electrification of nearly the entire yard gantry crane fleet.

DP World's operations at the Port of Callao support an estimated $23.6 billion in annual economic activity across Peru and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs nationwide.

Carlos Merino, CEO of DP World for Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, stated that these 20 years are the result of collaborative efforts with clients, employees, government partners, and the logistics community, aimed at strengthening Peru's connection to global trade and establishing Callao as a world-class gateway for long-term economic growth.
