This result was primarily driven by Port Hedland and the Port of Dampier within the region, which recorded throughputs of 45 million tonnes and 14.7 million tonnes respectively for the month. Among these, Port Hedland's total monthly throughput declined by 4% year-on-year, while the Port of Dampier saw a 3% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Port Hedland's iron ore exports totalled 44.2 million tonnes. Detailed port statistics show that total iron ore exports for the month amounted to 44,224,980 tonnes. China remained the largest export destination for iron ore from Port Hedland, receiving approximately 37.86 million tonnes in July, followed by South Korea (2.28 million tonnes), Japan (2.06 million tonnes), and Vietnam (1.01 million tonnes).

Port Hedland's total exports for the month were approximately 44.78 million tonnes, covering commodities such as iron ore, manganese ore, salt, spodumene concentrate, copper concentrate, general cargo, and containers. Total imports amounted to 250,000 tonnes, an increase of 4% compared to July 2025; detailed statistics show that discharged cargo totalled 249,803.94 tonnes, of which hydrocarbons accounted for 201,385 tonnes.

The Port of Dampier handled 14.7 million tonnes in July, an increase of 3% compared to the same period in 2025. Detailed data shows that the port's throughput reached 14,691,953 tonnes, comprising 14,577,198 tonnes of exports and 114,754 tonnes of imports. Iron ore dominated the cargo mix at the Port of Dampier, with 12.59 million tonnes handled in July, accounting for 85.67% of total cargo; liquefied natural gas (LNG) amounted to approximately 1.45 million tonnes, salt reached 358,311 tonnes, and condensate totalled 145,246 tonnes. Imports at the Port of Dampier were approximately 115,000 tonnes, an increase of 17% year-on-year.

Pilbara Ports noted that monthly throughput may fluctuate due to factors such as market conditions, weather conditions, port maintenance operations, and changes in customer demand.
