Wedoany.com Report-Jun 10, Linde, a global industrial gases and engineering company based in Dublin, Ireland, has announced plans to double the capacity of its carbon dioxide (CO₂) production facility in Freeport, Texas, by constructing a second CO₂ liquefaction plant. Scheduled to begin operations in 2027, the new plant will process crude CO₂ captured from MEGlobal America Inc.’s Oyster Creek ethylene glycol facility, which Linde also supplies with oxygen from its Freeport air separation plant.
The expansion addresses rising demand for reliable CO₂ across various industries, including beverage carbonation, food preservation, dry ice production, low-carbon fuel manufacturing, and chemical synthesis. These applications require a consistent CO₂ supply that adheres to strict safety and quality standards. Linde’s enhanced facility will strengthen its ability to meet these needs in the Gulf Coast region.
The Freeport CO₂ complex holds the distinction of being the first U.S. CO₂ liquefaction facility to earn ISCC PLUS certification from the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification. This third-party accreditation highlights Linde’s sustainability efforts by capturing and reusing CO₂ that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere.
Amer Akhras, Vice President South Region at Linde, stated: “Today’s announcement underscores Linde’s commitment to supporting industrial growth across the Gulf Coast. Our investment further strengthens Linde’s robust CO₂ network, enabling reliable supply to customers throughout the region while positioning us for future growth.”
With 2024 sales of $33 billion, Linde continues to expand its infrastructure to support industrial and environmental goals. The Freeport expansion reinforces the company’s role in providing sustainable CO₂ solutions, enhancing regional supply chains, and contributing to the broader adoption of low-carbon technologies.
