en.Wedoany.com Reported - SOLRITE Energy has announced the launch of its solar-plus-storage project in Illinois. Operating under a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) agreement, the project provides Illinois homeowners with a complete solar system paired with a 60 kWh whole-home battery, at a solar rate of 12 cents per kilowatt-hour.

Chicago Solar Program

The battery capacity is approximately four times that of a typical home battery, and participating homeowners pay no upfront costs and are not responsible for maintaining any equipment. This entry into Illinois marks the fifth state where SOLRITE has deployed its battery-centric VPP model. The company has previously rolled out the program in Texas, California, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, with Illinois being its first expansion into the Midwest market.

Regan George, CEO and founder of SOLRITE Energy, stated that Illinois families are facing continuously rising electricity bills, and that old solar rules became obsolete once the net metering policy was eliminated. The company offers homeowners predictable rates, batteries capable of supporting multiple days of electricity use, and a system that supports grid operations, thereby benefiting homeowners, the grid, and infrastructure investors alike.

SOLRITE's ultimate goal is to build a residential battery network that functions as a unified, dispatchable energy resource for Illinois. Participating households can respond in real time to energy demand and grid stress, thereby reducing the state's reliance on traditional power plants.

The company believes this is a critical period for the residential energy sector in Illinois. Residential energy demand in the state continues to climb, driving up electricity bills. Additionally, the state's full retail net metering policy for new solar customers ended in early 2025, a change that SOLRITE says has eroded the economics of solar-only systems.

SOLRITE's model is designed precisely for this environment: rather than exporting excess solar energy at diminishing credits, the 60 kWh battery stores it and dispatches it to the home and grid when its value is highest.

The new Illinois project is built around the state's current energy policy landscape. Programs such as the federal renewable energy tax credit and "Illinois Shines" allow energy credits to accrue to SOLRITE, which serves as the official "owner" of each system. SOLRITE can channel these incentives into the battery project, keeping the 60 kWh residential battery system at a relatively affordable price.

For homeowners, the direct benefits include: a solar rate of 12 cents per kilowatt-hour, typically lower than current utility rates; an annual price adjustment capped at 2.9%, regardless of retail electricity price increases; and backup power for critical loads for several days during outages, without the need for generators, fuel, or noise. Installation is carried out by Illinois-licensed installers, and homeowners are not required to purchase, insure, or maintain any equipment.

Starting August 20, eligible homeowners in ComEd and Ameren's Illinois service territories can apply for SOLRITE Energy's solar and battery program.
