This appointment will bring construction and delivery experience to the Major Development Plan currently being prepared by Sydney Airport. Under the plan, the project will add terminal space and 12 swing gates to handle both domestic and international flights, while improving connectivity between the airport's terminals and providing additional capacity as passenger numbers rise.

Paul Willis, Executive General Manager of Planning and Delivery at Sydney Airport Group, said bringing in Multiplex at this stage provides valuable construction and delivery expertise as work continues on the Major Development Plan. He noted that the project is highly complex, located in the heart of an operating airport, and that early collaboration between the airport, designers, and contractors will help test how the project can be built and staged safely and efficiently while minimizing disruption to passengers, airlines, and airport operations.

Willis also mentioned that Multiplex has a strong track record in delivering complex infrastructure and large-scale projects, and he looks forward to working together to advance this terminal development, supporting Sydney Airport's long-term growth and delivering a better experience for passengers and airlines.

The project will be delivered within an operating airport environment, and construction and staging plans need to account for passengers, airlines, and the airport's ongoing operations.

Previously, Sydney Airport selected Grimshaw and Mott MacDonald as lead consultants for the T2-T3 project, with Grimshaw responsible for architectural design and Mott MacDonald responsible for engineering.

The T2-T3 terminal project is part of Sydney Airport's A$6 billion capital works program over the next five years. The program aims to support the airport's long-term growth, with Sydney Airport forecasting passenger demand to reach 72 million per year by 2045.
