en.Wedoany.com Reported - Epson is expanding its print-and-cut product line with the launch of the SureColor S7170 Print Cut Edition. This system integrates the SureColor S7170 64-inch roll-to-roll solvent printer, the Summa S1 D140 cutter, and workflow software into a single solution, targeting sign makers for applications such as indoor and outdoor signage, stickers, banners, canvas printing, and vehicle wraps.

The SureColor S7170 is designed for sign makers who print on a variety of substrates but do not require the higher throughput of larger production printers. It utilizes a four-color UltraChrome GS3 solvent ink set and Epson Precision Dot technology. Compared to the previous generation, this printer features a 1.33-inch PrecisionCore Micro TFP print head and a precise media handling system to enhance print speeds. Nozzle verification technology supports stable operation, and a temperature sensor located near the nozzle plate helps improve color consistency. The new ink supply system uses 800 ml ink packs instead of cartridges to reduce plastic usage and lower replacement frequency.

The Summa S1 D140 cutter offers a 54-inch cutting width and is equipped with an OPOS sensor system for reading registration marks. Its drag knife delivers up to 600 grams of pressure for cutting laminated designs and other media. The OPOS Xtra feature supports handling of intricate sticker jobs. The cutter also enables barcode-based automation of print-and-cut job workflows to reduce manual intervention.

In terms of media handling, the printer comes with a media feed and take-up system designed specifically for cutting; media compatibility covers materials such as vinyl, banner, canvas, and paper.

Regarding operating costs, the system is designed for easy maintenance with a lower initial cost compared to higher-capacity systems. Epson states that it delivers higher production speeds compared to the SureColor S40600.

On the software and monitoring side, the system includes Epson Edge Print PRO and a one-year prepaid subscription to ONYX Go Plus for print-and-cut workflows; Epson Cloud Solution PORT is available for printer monitoring.

Epson also notes that print speed data is based on print engine speed and is derived from comparisons with the previous generation; total throughput time for any print job depends on various factors, including workstation configuration, file size, print resolution, ink coverage, and network conditions, so actual print speeds will vary. A portion of the initial ink in the packs is used to prime the printer; actual ink consumption varies significantly depending on printed images, print settings, paper type, usage frequency, temperature, and humidity; differences may be more pronounced when printing infrequently or primarily using one ink color. Ink is used for both printing and printer maintenance, and all colors must be available for printing; to ensure print quality, a certain amount of ink remains in the packs after the "Replace Ink" indicator lights up. Full functionality of this system requires a valid internet connection and the use of a supported browser.
