en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 3, the Port of Khor Fakkan, operated by the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zone Authority in the UAE, received the ultra-large container vessel MSC MARIELLA, operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). With a container capacity of 24,346 TEU, a length of approximately 400 meters, and a beam exceeding 61 meters, the vessel is classified as an Ultra-Large Container Vessel (ULCV) and was berthed at the Khor Fakkan Container Terminal for this call.

The Khor Fakkan Container Terminal, operated by Gulftainer, features a total of six berths with an aggregate quay length of approximately 1,880 meters, a maximum draft of 16 meters, and is equipped with 18 quay cranes, including 8 Post-Panamax and 10 Super-Post Panamax units. The terminal's container yard covers an area of approximately 450,000 square meters, with the entire terminal facility spanning about 70 hectares. The approach channel is 700 meters wide and 16 meters deep.

The Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zone Authority also disclosed that the Port of Khor Fakkan is advancing an expansion plan for container handling capacity, aiming to increase annual throughput from 3.5 million TEU to 5 million TEU, subsequently raising it in phases to 7 million TEU, with a final target of 10 million TEU. This capacity expansion initiative is being pursued in parallel with the development of berthing capabilities for ultra-large container vessels.

The Khor Fakkan Container Terminal operates 24 hours a day, covering container handling, storage, reefer container processing, and related terminal operations. According to the vessel schedule published by Gulftainer, MSC MARIELLA has been included in the KCT operational plan under voyage number MSMQS631R. The port is located on the UAE's east coast, directly facing the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean.
