The meeting focused on discussions covering existing issues with on-site storage facilities at nuclear power plants, improvements to the support system for areas surrounding nuclear power plants, and a joint response mechanism among local governments. Participants noted that some of the issues faced by nuclear power plant host regions are common in nature, and that collaboration among local governments is needed to ensure relevant opinions are reflected in government policies and systems.

The participating local governments also exchanged views on strengthening the protection of residents' rights and interests and promoting shared regional development, and agreed to strengthen cooperation mechanisms on common issues while continuing to pursue joint recommendations and institutional improvements.

Gyeongju stated that it would use this meeting as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration with other local governments hosting nuclear power plants and actively participate in joint proposals and institutional refinement efforts.

Joo Nak-young, Mayor of Gyeongju, stated that the issues faced by nuclear power plant host regions are difficult for any single local government to resolve independently, making a joint response highly important. Through close cooperation among the five local governments, Gyeongju will work to ensure regional demands are reflected in policies and institutions, safeguarding residents' rights and interests and promoting regional development.
