Wedoany.com Report-Jun 24, Linde plc, headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, has entered a long-term agreement to supply industrial gases to Blue Point Number One, a joint venture involving CF Industries Holdings, Inc. of Deerfield, Illinois, JERA Co., Inc. of Tokyo, Japan, and Mitsui & Co. The agreement supports Blue Point’s 1.4 million metric ton low-carbon ammonia facility in Ascension Parish, Louisiana.

Under the contract, Linde will construct, own, and operate a large-scale air separation unit (ASU) to provide oxygen and nitrogen to the Blue Point project, anticipated to be among the world’s largest low-carbon ammonia initiatives. Linde will invest over $400 million in the new facility, with operations expected to commence in 2029.

The new ASU will be the largest of its kind in southeast Louisiana’s Mississippi River corridor, enhancing Linde’s existing network of industrial gas production sites along the U.S. Gulf Coast. The facility will complement Linde’s established hydrogen and syngas infrastructure in the region. Technip Energies is also contributing engineering expertise to the Blue Point Number One project.

Christopher Bohn, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of CF Industries Holdings, Inc., stated: “The Blue Point joint venture will help build a reliable and affordable low-carbon ammonia value chain to meet rising demand for ammonia as an energy source. For industry-leading projects, trusted partners are crucial. Linde’s experience in developing major clean energy projects, along with its technology and operational expertise, make them a strategic choice for the Blue Point project.”

Sean Durbin, Executive Vice President North America at Linde, commented: “We are proud to supply critical industrial gases to Blue Point, supporting their development of a robust supply chain for low-carbon ammonia. This will be Linde’s third state-of-the-art ASU supplying a major autothermal reforming plant which builds from our experience in developing similar facilities in Texas and Canada. It is also the latest of a series of investments by Linde in our U.S. Gulf Coast industrial gases corridor, increasing network density in a region where demand for industrial gases is continuously growing.”

The Blue Point project aligns with growing demand for low-carbon ammonia as an energy source, and Linde’s investment strengthens its position in the U.S. Gulf Coast, a key region for industrial gas production. The new facility will enhance the region’s infrastructure, ensuring a reliable supply chain for the ammonia plant.
