The funds will be used to expand additive manufacturing capacity for large metal components, with a focus on serving naval, shipbuilding, and defense industry customers.

Headquartered in Portsmouth, Virginia, Radian Forge uses large-scale wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) technology to produce precision metal parts. The process deposits metal wire layer by layer through a robotic system to manufacture large parts, reducing reliance on traditional castings and forgings. The company says that compared with traditional manufacturing routes, the process can shorten the production cycle for some large components by 40% to 80%, primarily addressing the long lead times for large metal components in the shipbuilding and defense equipment supply chain.

This funding will further support the company in expanding its manufacturing capacity and dovetail with its previously announced expansion plan for the Portsmouth site. In February 2026, Radian Forge announced a $10.5 million investment to expand its local manufacturing facility, with plans to add 53 jobs; Virginia also approved $265,000 in Opportunity Fund support for the project.

From an industrial layout perspective, Radian Forge is located near the Hampton Roads shipbuilding industrial cluster, which is surrounded by several important U.S. naval shipbuilding and repair facilities. After this additional funding, the company will continue to expand localized manufacturing capacity for large marine and defense metal structures, with a focus on shortening delivery cycles for critical components for shipyards and defense contractors.
