en.Wedoany.com Reported - BYD Energy Storage of China has released the GC Block, a standardized power plant-level battery energy storage unit with a maximum configuration capacity of 62 MWh, as part of its second-generation gigawatt-scale grid-forming energy storage solution.

The product was launched at the 2026 Energy Green Development Conference and International Digital Energy Exhibition held in Shenzhen, and is positioned as a core component of the Gigawatt-Scale Grid-Forming Energy Storage Solution 2.0. The GC Flux PCS 2.0 Power Conversion System (PCS) and the GC Master EMS 2.0 Energy Management System were also released at the same event.

The GC Block offers three standardized configurations: 7.5 MW/15.5 MWh for approximately two-hour applications, 7.5 MW/31 MWh for four-hour projects, and 10 MW/62 MWh for six-hour energy storage. BYD states that with the maximum configuration, a 1 GWh project requires approximately 17 GC Block units.

The system uses BYD's 1,980 Ah energy storage Blade Battery cells, manufactured with a stacking process. BYD claims that this architecture reduces the number of cells required for large-scale projects while simplifying cabling, foundations, battery management, and maintenance. For a gigawatt-scale power plant, the design can reduce battery management complexity by 69.4%, maintenance workload by more than 60%, and installation and commissioning workload by more than 18%.

BYD positions the GC Block as a step from a single containerized energy storage unit toward larger, replicable power plant-level modules. The standardized architecture targets utility-scale standalone energy storage, renewable energy co-located storage projects, data center power supply applications, zero-carbon industrial parks, and energy storage scenarios supporting high-power electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The GC Flux PCS 2.0 covers power ratings from 1.25 MW to 15.6 MW. A standard 20-foot PCS container can accommodate up to 10 MW, with a maximum conversion efficiency of 99.5% and a 10-second three-times overload capability, while supporting both centralized and string energy storage architectures. The accompanying GC Master EMS 2.0 is used for online management of gigawatt-scale energy storage plant clusters. BYD states that the platform incorporates artificial intelligence-based forecasting technology with a prediction accuracy of 98.5%, and can automatically calculate and dispatch energy storage resources without the need for continuous manual monitoring.

The figure of 62 MWh does not refer to the energy capacity of a single 20-foot battery container. The GC Block is what BYD calls a "power plant-level standard unit," composed of larger integrated sections within an energy storage plant, with 62 MWh representing the total capacity of the largest 10 MW/62 MWh configuration. BYD has not yet publicly disclosed the specific number of battery containers within the unit, its overall dimensions, or its physical layout.

BYD describes the 62 MWh configuration as its highest-capacity standardized power plant-level energy storage unit launched to date. The product reflects the growing scale of utility energy storage projects: system suppliers are seeking to shift more integration work from individual on-site construction to standardized, replicable power plant modules to reduce engineering complexity.
