GEON Commissions 10MW/20MWh Battery Energy Storage Project in Rajasthan, India
en.Wedoany.com Reported - GEON, the new energy technology division of Kabra Extrusiontechnik, has commissioned a 10MW/20MWh utility-scale battery energy storage system in Phalodi, Rajasthan, India. The project was implemented by GEON for a renewable energy independent power producer, with a power capacity of 10MW and an energy storage capacity of 20MWh, and has completed construction, system integration, testing, and on-site commissioning. GEON disclosed that the project falls under its BESS Project-2.

The project scope of equipment includes battery energy storage containers, power conversion systems (PCS), and energy management systems (EMS). GEON undertook the complete execution work from BESS containerization, PCS and EMS integration, to factory acceptance testing (FAT), pre-commissioning, on-site commissioning, and site acceptance testing (SAT). The project was implemented in accordance with the relevant requirements of Rajasthan Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (RVPNL) and has now been completed and put into operation.
The energy storage system adopts a 2-hour storage configuration, i.e., 10MW rated power corresponding to 20MWh energy storage capacity, connected to the local green power open access system. GEON disclosed that the project can serve the open access power needs of commercial and industrial users, providing relevant users with peak-valley power scheduling capability by storing power during low-cost periods and releasing stored energy during peak consumption periods. The system can be deployed either on the premises of commercial and industrial users or configured on the open access renewable energy generation side.
On the regulatory front, the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission has established an independent regulatory framework for green energy open access and battery energy storage. Among these, the "RERC Green Energy Open Access Terms and Conditions Regulations" were issued in July 2025, and the "RERC Battery Energy Storage System Regulations" were officially issued in May 2026. GEON stated that the Phalodi project is one of the earlier BESS assets to obtain regulatory approval and complete commissioning after the implementation of the new local green energy open access rules.
The project corresponds to an energy storage facility that has already completed commissioning and commercial deployment, rather than a planned or early-stage development project. Public information has not yet disclosed the total project investment, the specific renewable energy IPP name, the battery cell supplier, the number of individual energy storage containers, or the scale of subsequent expansion. The currently disclosed implementation chain confirms coverage of equipment integration, FAT, pre-commissioning, on-site commissioning, and SAT, and the project is currently at the official commissioning stage.
