Construction Begins on Finland's 125MW/300MWh AKKU One Energy Storage Project
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 17, European renewable energy developer Covenergo and Swiss large-scale battery storage development and operations company Delta Capacity announced that the AKKU One standalone battery energy storage project in Lapinlahti, Finland, has entered the construction phase. The project has a capacity of 125MW/300MWh and is scheduled to complete commissioning and enter operation in the fourth quarter of 2027. The project was previously developed to ready-to-build status by Helios Nordic Energy, after which the project acquisition was completed and it transitioned to the procurement and construction phase.

AKKU One adopts a standalone battery energy storage system design. The project will be equipped with 60 battery containers forming 30 integrated energy storage units, and will connect to the grid at the 110kV voltage level. Based on the 125MW power rating and 300MWh capacity, the project's duration at full power output is approximately 2.4 hours. Covenergo holds a majority equity stake in the project and is responsible for project management and delivery coordination; Delta Capacity assumes EPCM management responsibilities, as well as responsibility for project power sales arrangements, construction implementation, and long-term asset management.
The project's battery energy storage system will be supplied by Sungrow. Delta Capacity previously signed a 1GWh battery energy storage system framework agreement with Sungrow, and AKKU One will be included under this supply framework. Nordic engineering consultancy Rejlers is responsible for technical support during the construction phase, NYAB is undertaking the Balance of Plant works, Ampner is responsible for grid connection studies and grid compliance verification, and DNV's GreenPowerMonitor will provide the energy management system and SCADA system for real-time monitoring and control after the project is commissioned.
Once completed, AKKU One will participate in frequency regulation, balancing, and ancillary services in the Finnish and Nordic power markets. The project was previously acquired from Helios Nordic Energy as a Ready-to-Build asset, and has now transitioned from asset transaction and development preparation to on-site construction. Delta Capacity disclosed that the company currently has nearly 800MWh of energy storage projects under construction in Europe and plans to build and operate more than 6GWh of flexibility assets by 2030.
This project is also Delta Capacity's second large-scale battery energy storage project in Finland. The company previously participated in the Swedish Ånge 70MW/160MWh energy storage project, which achieved commercial operation in June 2026; once AKKU One is commissioned, it will further increase the scale of Delta Capacity's energy storage assets in the Nordic power market.
