Third Batch of 9.45MW of India's Vanki Wind Power Project Commissioned into Commercial Operation
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 19, NTPC Green Energy announced that the third batch of 9.45MW capacity of the Vanki Wind Power Project, located in Nakhatrana, Kutch district, Gujarat, India, and developed by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, was officially commissioned into commercial operation, with the commercial operation date effective from 0:00 on September 19. The Vanki project has a planned capacity of approximately 179.55MW and is developed and constructed by NTPC Renewable Energy, with unit commissioning currently being completed in batches.
The first batch of 50.4MW entered commercial operation on July 8, and the second batch of 6.3MW was commissioned on September 13, forming a timeline of continuous batch grid connection from July to September. NTPC's official list of projects under construction lists Vanki as one of the key wind power projects in Gujarat, with the total project scale stated as approximately 179.6MW according to the list; after the commissioning of this third batch of capacity, the project still has subsequent capacity in the construction and grid-connection preparation stage.
The supporting electrical system of Vanki has been incorporated into NTPC Renewable Energy's unified reactive power compensation construction plan for multiple wind power projects in Gujarat. According to the SVG equipment tender document released in 2025, Vanki, as the third lot therein, has a project capacity calculated at 179.55MW and is configured with a reactive power compensation requirement of approximately 66MVAr. The relevant scope of work includes SVG system design, equipment supply, transportation, civil works, installation, integration with the owner's 33kV switchgear, and system commissioning, directly serving the grid-connected operation of the wind farm and voltage and reactive power control requirements.
Before the project entered batch commercial operation, NTPC Renewable Energy also launched procurement of Qualified Coordinating Agency (QCA) services for the Vanki wind farm, with the service target explicitly identified as the approximately 179MW wind power project in Nakhatrana. The QCA mainly undertakes coordination and dispatch interface work after wind power projects enter power system operation. This procurement was released in March 2026, providing operational-side support for the subsequent large-scale batch grid connection of units.
Judging from the engineering milestones disclosed so far, Vanki has completed commercial operation of three batches of capacity, and subsequent work will continue to focus on the construction of remaining units, grid-connection testing, and the advancement of commercial operation batches. NTPC has not yet disclosed the scale of the next batch of capacity or the specific commissioning time in this announcement.
