Super-Deep Oil and Gas Production in China's Desert Oilfield Exceeds 26 Million Tons

en.Wedoany.com Reported - China's largest desert oilfield, the Hade-Fuman Oilfield, has extracted more than 26 million tons of oil and gas from below 6,000 meters.

Recently, Well Zhentan 1, located on the northern edge of the Taklamakan Desert, successfully retrieved rock cores from a depth of 8,080 meters underground. These cores have lain dormant underground for approximately 500 million years. This is China's first time retrieving rock cores from below 8,000 meters on the northwestern edge of the Tarim Basin.

Xu Yanan, Director of the Tarim Oilfield Project Department of PetroChina: With these precious rocks, we can analyze and evaluate the hydrocarbon generation capacity below 8,000 meters, the thickness of oil and gas, and the maturity of the oil and gas.

In recent years, the Tarim Oilfield has accelerated the pace of ultra-deep oil and gas production in the Taklamakan Desert, drilling 485 ultra-deep wells in the Hade-Fuman Oilfield. Among them, 133 wells have cumulatively produced more than 100,000 tons of oil and gas, and 464 wells have produced more than 10,000 tons, making it China's largest desert oilfield and ultra-deep oil and gas production base.

Lu Zhongyuan, Level-2 Engineer of the Tarim Oilfield of PetroChina: We have extracted 20.36 million tons of crude oil and 8.15 billion cubic meters of natural gas from the ultra-deep formations of the Taklamakan Desert, with oil and gas equivalent exceeding 26.86 million tons. 17,000 square kilometers of yellow sand has been transformed into a hot spot for oil and gas exploration and development.

The ultra-deep formations of the Tarim Basin are rich in oil and gas reserves and represent an important potential area for China's oil and gas reserve growth and production increase. China has proven oil and gas reserves of more than 5 billion tons in the Tarim Basin, of which more than half come from ultra-deep formations.
