Petrobras Updates Drilling Schedule for Three Appraisal Wells: 2027 to 2029
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Petrobras has updated the drilling schedule for three appraisal wells in the Foz do Amazonas Basin: two are scheduled for drilling in 2027, and the third has been postponed to 2028. The company submitted the schedule to the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) on Friday (the 2nd). Previously, Sylvia Anjos, the company's Executive Director of Exploration and Production (E&P), had stated that these three wells were originally planned to be drilled within the following year.

Under the new schedule, the first well, Manga, will be drilled between March and October 2027; next comes PAD Morpho (also known as Morpho Extensão), with operations expected to begin in November 2027 and drilling expected to be completed by June 2028; the third well, Crotalus, is scheduled to begin in July 2028 and end in January 2029.
Petrobras hopes to use these appraisal wells to obtain more information to evaluate the reservoirs in the area. The drilling of these three appraisal wells in Block FZA-M-59 may be carried out by Foresea's drillship ODN-II (NS-42) or Constellation's Amaralina Star (NS-43). The Morpho well is currently being explored in this block. After completing the Morpho well, the ODN-II will head to the Potiguar Basin to drill a well named Mãe de Ouro. Ibama authorized the offshore drilling of this well and the Itanhangá well in March of this year.
In addition, Petrobras also informed Ibama that the company has been seeking to advance the next drilling in the block. Currently, the ODN-II drillship is drilling the first well in Block FZA-M-59, the Morpho well, and is expected to continue operating at this well throughout October.
The company has already discovered two oil-bearing intervals in the Morpho well. Anjos stated that all risks regarding whether a "petroleum system" exists have been ruled out, and now it only remains to determine the volume of oil in the block; existing seismic survey data already indicate that its scale is considerable.
The oil discovered in the Morpho well is light oil, with an API gravity (density indicator) higher than 30°. Magda Chambriard, President of Petrobras, told reporters at the company's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro on the most recent 2nd that the oil there "maybe it's only not as good as Urucu's oil"—Urucu is an onshore oil field located deep in the Amazon rainforest—"(the oil) is better, the kind that puts more money in your pocket."
