en.Wedoany.com Reported - The first GeoBlock of Phase I at Fervo Energy's Cape Station has entered commercial operation, generating 33MW net power and earning revenue under a power purchase agreement (PPA). The facility was connected to the grid on September 24 and declared commercial operation six days later.

First GeoBlock Reaches Contractual Commercial Operation

Phase I of Cape Station has an installed capacity of approximately 100MW, distributed across three 33MW GeoBlocks as termed by Fervo Energy. The remaining two Phase I GeoBlocks are expected to be completed by January 1, 2027.

Phase II will add 400MW and is scheduled for completion in 2028. Fervo Energy expects this to enhance long-term revenue potential through additional multi-year offtake agreements.

David Ulrey, Chief Financial Officer of Fervo Energy, stated that the company has signed over 1GW of binding power purchase agreements (PPAs) across its entire project portfolio, and the commercial operation date (COD) of the first GeoBlock marks the beginning of building a predictable, long-term revenue-generating foundation; as the company brings the remaining Phase I GeoBlocks into operation, it remains focused on disciplined capital execution.

Tim Latimer, CEO and co-founder of Fervo Energy, said that no team had previously built such a project anywhere in the world, and the company achieved commercial operation at Cape Station ahead of schedule.

Fervo Energy took 23 months to complete and commission the first GeoBlock. As the company scales up and gains experience, this timeline is expected to be further reduced, potentially to as short as 18 months.

In September of this year, Fervo Energy signed a 396MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google to support the continued development of Cape Station. Fervo Energy stated that this agreement is the largest enhanced geothermal PPA globally to date and will provide round-the-clock, carbon-free power for data centers Google may develop in the future.

Lucia Tian, Director of Advanced Energy Technologies at Google, said that advanced power generation technology is entering its next phase in Utah. The project will bring tangible economic benefits to local communities and help drive down long-term energy costs by making enhanced geothermal more affordable and accessible.
