Honeywell Awarded Process Technology Contract for China Hengyi Petrochemical's Brunei Phase II Refining and Petrochemical Project
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 14, Honeywell Technologies announced that it had been awarded a process technology supply contract for Phase II of the Pulau Muara Besar refining and petrochemical project of Hengyi Industries (Brunei) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China's Hengyi Group. The scope covers process technology licensing, process package preparation, proprietary equipment, catalysts, and technical services. The project plans to build hydrocracking, aromatics complex, and dehydrogenation units. Upon completion of Phase II, the entire refining and petrochemical base is expected to reach a crude oil processing capacity of approximately 20 million tons per year.

Under the technology supply arrangement, Phase II will adopt UOP technologies under Honeywell Technologies, including naphtha hydrotreating, CCR Platforming continuous catalytic reforming, Unicracking hydrocracking, Butamer n-butane isomerization, and C4 Oleflex isobutane dehydrogenation, along with an aromatics complex based on Parex light desorbent technology. The process supply scope also covers related engineering design, key equipment, and catalyst configuration.
Hengyi Industries and Honeywell Technologies had previously cooperated on Phase I of the Pulau Muara Besar refining and petrochemical project, with the latter responsible for process technology licensing, engineering design, key equipment, catalyst and adsorbent supply, as well as providing production personnel training, commissioning technical services, and operational technical support. The Phase II technology supply continues to cover refining and petrochemical processing units, with hydrocracking, aromatics complex, and dehydrogenation units all included in the newly added construction plan.
According to the project construction plan disclosed by Hengyi Industries in February 2026, the Phase II expansion is scheduled for completion in early 2029, expanding the base's crude oil processing capacity from approximately 8 million tons per year to 20 million tons per year. In May 2026, Hengyi Industries initiated contractor solicitation for Phase II dynamic compaction ground treatment, geological survey, and foundation testing; on October 7, it issued a solicitation document for Phase II environmental impact assessment technical services, with a deadline of October 13.
